Coronavirus Information Update – March 26, 2020

by , filed under Blog, News

Dear Faith Theological Seminary Family,

Faith Theological Seminary continues to actively monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and provide updates to the FTS community. There are currently no confirmed cases at Faith Theological Seminary.

The health and safety of our students, faculty and staff remains our primary concern. We recognize that these are extraordinary times that require exceptional measures to deal with a health risk that affects us all.

Each of us plays a role in preventing the spread of COVID-19, and Faith Theological Seminary is taking measures to better protect our students, our staff and our faculty. Today, we are providing the following updates:

Learning and Working

All in-person classes are cancelled through Saturday, April 11th, 2020 at which time this decision will be re-evaluated and may be extended.

FTS faculty have been advised to continue teaching their courses through Populi and through alternate distance education platforms which may include Zoom or another provider.  Students are expected to fulfill ALL course requirements as stated on the course syllabi unless changes have been made through their individual professor’s.

Faculty, staff and students will receive updates through FTS email and through Populi.

FTS staff will continue to work on campus with very limited access to students and faculty during this period.  If you need to reach a staff member, send an email to him/her BEFORE you travel to the 529 Walker Avenue campus.  FTS email and Populi will continue to function, so your professors and the administration will stay in touch with you using these technologies or email.

The library is will continue to be closed through April 11th, 2020 at which time this policy will be re-evaluated and may be extended.

Travel Guidance

Knowing that Easter Week Break is often a time of personal travel, please note that FTS is strongly advising against travel to any country that is under a CDC Risk Assessment Level 1, 2, or 3 related to COVID-19. We discourage against any personal travel to any country, regardless of CDC levels.  We also discourage against any domestic travel, for a 50-mile radius as a guide.

Stay Informed and Support Each Other

This continues to be a fluid and rapidly evolving situation; Faith Theological Seminary may take alternative action as appropriate.

We recognize that these actions create significant challenges for students, faculty, staff and families, and we ask for your understanding as we respond to this unprecedented global public health issue.

2 Timothy 1:7 reads “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

We are taking these steps as a precaution to protect our students, faculty and staff.  Please continue to take care of yourselves and each other. Now, more than ever, we must all do what Faith Theological Seminary does best—pray for each other, support each other, and find solutions to move our community forward, together. We will emerge from this stronger than ever as a community of Faith.

Sincerely in Christ,

Norman J. Manohar, Th.D., D.D.
